Body & Soul
Reflecting on God’s majesty, evident throughout the earth—over land, sea, and sky—reminds me of David’s words: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain” (Psalm 139:6).
In Psalm 139:13-15, David says, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret, (mother’s womb) and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.”
“Fearfully and wonderfully made” is how the Psalmist best describes us. We are incredibly complex beings.
The evidence of a Creator is abundant within the human body, and it can persuade anyone with common sense that we are not merely the result of random chance over a long period of time.
The human brain consists of approximately 10 billion nerve cells that work together, enabling us to function as we do.
Each retina in your eyes contains about 100 million receptor cells, supported by four additional layers of nerve cells.
Your skin has more than 2 million tiny sweat glands—approximately 3,000 per square inch—that help regulate your body temperature.
Your heart beats about 75 times per minute on average, totaling around 40 million beats each year, or approximately 2.5 billion times over a span of 70 years. It pumps about 3,000 gallons of blood each day.
Your digestive system consists of around 35 million glands that secrete juices to aid in digestion and sustain your life.
Your body makes billions of calculations each second, sending signals through your optic nerve to the brain, which contains more than a dozen separate vision centers to process the information.
As you read this article you are supported by over 200 intricately designed bones connected to more than 500 muscles, along with various tendons and ligaments. Some muscles operate under your conscious control, while others function automatically.
We haven’t even touched on your lungs, other senses (hearing, taste, smell, and touch), endocrine glands, immune system, and much more. Remarkably, all these systems work together seamlessly! And this is just a glimpse of the human body.
Your present body, as amazing as it is, is Temporal, but your soul is far more valuable because it is eternal.
Mark 8:35-36 says, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospels will save it. For what will profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?”
Our souls are priceless treasures of immeasurable value, each created by God. Every soul has the potential to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Again: our souls are valuable because they are eternal and will last forever.
Have you ever stopped to consider how valuable your soul is to you and to God? The truth is that your soul holds greater value than all the possessions of this temporary world combined—whether physical, economic, academic, or entertainment-related. Jesus Christ says there is nothing in this world that can compare to the eternal value of your soul.
Your soul cannot be measured in monetary or earthly terms; it is eternal in quality. While your body dies, your soul lives on. God sees your soul as your greatest and eternal possession.
Its value can be measured by the price Christ was willing to pay to save you from hell. He left heaven, was born in a manger, died between two thieves on a cross, and shed His precious blood there to wash our sins away. What higher price could He pay? “The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin.”
Christ demands more than just attending church, being a good person, or serving in the community. He requires the total surrender of our life to Him—the surrender of our body and soul to Him. What shall it profit you if you gain the whole world and miss heaven?
If you gain all the enjoyment, applause, money, and pleasures of this world but miss heaven and are lost to hell, it would be the greatest tragedy of all.
Don’t let this happen. Take care of your life and entrust your everlasting soul to Jesus Christ. He is just a prayer away.
