THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

There is a verse in the Bible that says, “The preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness, bug unto us which are saved, it is the Power of God.”  In Paul’s day preaching of the Gospel of Christ was foolishness, and I am afraid that it is just as foolish to many today.

There are those who foolishly imagine that the world is growing better and better. They have bought into the delusion, that because we can travel and communicate and cook and produce faster we are growing wiser.  But whether a man is travelling 7 miles an hour by horse and buggy, 70 miles an hour by car, or 700 miles an hour by air-o-plane, he is still the same man.  Astronauts, moon-shots, and computers haven’t changed man on the inside, his heart is still the same, his human nature is still the same, his standing before God is still the same.

The world talk’s education: God demands Regeneration.  The world says we need culture, God says we need Calvary.  These world rates men by their color and bank account, by social-register and ancestry:  God says:  “There is no difference, for all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.”  The rich young Ruler is just as much of a sinner in the sight of God as Barabbas the thief.

Whether one lives on the boulevard, or in the backwoods, whether he be Mayor or bootlegger: “rich-man, poor-man, beggar-man or thief, there is no difference.  Without Jesus Christ living in the heart, all of us are sinners in the sight of God.  Rich-sinners, Educated-sinners, Moral-sinners, Baptized-sinners, but still sinners.  Only personal faith in Jesus Christ can take our sins away, and make us stand righteous before God.

This world by wisdom does not really believe this.  It believes that a man can be cultivated and refined, until he finally passes inspection at the judgment bar of God.

But God gives his sons of Adman no such hope.  He says that we were all born in sin and shapen in iniquity.  He says that we all must accept His son as our Savior from sin, or we will never be accepted in His presence.  Heaven will never become home.

Whether one person has “breathed-in” the atmosphere of a dozen universities, while another one lives in the outdoors of the back alley: Whether one drives a Rolls-Royce, while another pushes an applecart, they are all on the same footing before God.  They are all sinners.  They must come the same way to God, the way of the cross, through His Son Jesus Christ, or otherwise they will one day be rejected by Him.

Of course this sounds like foolishness to the worldly-wise, and so it is.  It is the foolishness of God.  The Gospel is God’s Good News about a crucified Christ who died for our sins.  The world laughs at such preaching of the cross.  The very idea, of being saved from sin by a man who died on a cross!  To say there is no other Name under heaved but Jesus, where by we must be saved; to them is foolishness.

But faith says: “I believe God.”  “Let God ne true and every man a liar.”  “I believe the Gospel.”  I believe Jesus is the only Savior from sin.”  Yes!  While the preaching of the Cross is foolishness to them that perish, to them that believe it is the power of God unto Salvation.   Those who believe know from experience, that Christ is the only Savior from sin.  Because they have the proof on the inside:  You see: a person with an experience is never at the mercy of a person who only has a theory.

You can prove God for yourself today, Step out in bold faith, and ask Christ to come into your heart and save you from sin and you will discover for yourself, that even the foolishness of God is wiser than men.
