Security, Security, Security! Everybody is talking about security. Hackers are invading our personal information. Health Care plans are evaporating like foam on the water. Cameras are on every corner, NSA spying Information is questionable, and mechanical drones are flying over our heads like quacking ducks. I’m not certain about that black helicopter complex; but nevertheless, you was only two steps behind you.
Regardless, like a dark cloud, the whole security thing hangs over us with great suspicion. Why! Because we know we cannot trust people who have unconditional power over our lives. History proves that such power slowly but surely corrupts its possessors. It is not the power itself that worries us, for power itself is not corrupt, it is human nature that is corrupt, and that is the big worry.
The flip-side is that there is a Big Brother whose all-knowing (Omniscient) power you can implicitly trust. He neither slumbers nor sleeps and always has your best interest at heart.
Psalm 121:7-8 puts it this way, “The Lord will keep you from all harm he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
This is one of the most treasurable truths in all of Scripture. With The Holy Spirit looking over us we are as secure as the twelve foundations of heaven. Nothing can shake them, nothing can topple them, and such is the firm foundation of every believer.
One of my favorite scripture verses is that mentioned by Peter who in his boastful years was as secure as a reed in the wind, “We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.” (I Peter 1:5) Now that is Security. The apostle Paul joins in on the chorus by saying, nothing, absolutely nothing is “able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:39) These promises alone are as wide as the widest ocean as deep as the deepest sea and higher than the heavens above us. This is the security which God alone can promise and no human dare guarantee.
As frail creatures of the dust we are not able to keep ourselves from falling any more than a hollow tree can keep itself from falling. That is why our security must be his work and not ours alone.
I do not ask to hold God’s hand for my hands are too weak, but I do ask Him to hold my hand for when God holds my hand I know that when I slip or stumble he is able to lift me up and set me on my feet again. (Psalm 18:35)
God’s security reaches into every facet of our lives. “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ” (I Thessalonians 5:23)
You don’t have to be Pollyanna or act like a lion shaking his mane, to stir up your self- confidence or sense of security. These leaning posts are fragile at best and temperamental at worse. I recall the verse that a CEO gave to me one time as he had the 24/7 weight of a great company on his shoulders; “…in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength…” (Isaiah 30:15)
As our days so shall our strength be as we lean heavily upon Him.
And best of all when we stand before Him who is the judge of all the ages and empires and individuals we will feel more secure than we ever have in our existence, for we shall be dressed in his righteousness and not our own.
“Oh happy day that fixed my choice on thee my savior and my God.”
“Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” (Jude 24-25)
So Shall We Ever be With The Lord!
That’s The Kind of Security You Have In Christ.
